Five Lies That The Devil Tells In Church (Part 3)

John 8:43-47

Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me? He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.”

Just under 7,000 years ago, the first lie that a human uttered was in the land that God created in sheer perfection. Since that day that Adam and Even lied to God and believed the lies of the devil they have always had problems and strife. Why? Could it be that it is easier to listen to the devil that speaks in a way that makes us want to believe? No one knows but we are aware that he speaks a loud and clear message to all of those that will listen. Howbeit, the devil speaks the loudest in, believe it or now, the house of God. The devil’s voice seems to endlessly cascade off of the holy vestments and into our minds like a tennis ball off of a hard surface. Learning what to listen for will not only help you to avoid his traps but will sharpen your senses to his attack. Join us this week as we discuss The Fie Lies That The Devil Tells In Church.

Lie # 3 “God Loves Everyone The Same”

This is a lie that is the most dangerous. Why? Because it is truth mingled with untruth. The bible tells us in John 3:16 that God loved the world all the same because He sent Jesus Christ to us in human flesh. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” We also see that the bible explain that God is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” Then where did this erroneous statement come from? In order to debunk a lie, you must first bring the truth so that the lie can be discovered by all.

Element #1 (Love Vs Favor)

There are people that God loves dearly and there are people that God favors more than the ones whom he loves. What does that mean? Think of it like a thermometer chart. There is the base where it begins at zero but the more you add to it the higher it climbs. Obviously, adding requires extra of whatever is being rated but it has to exceed the standard in order to rise past the baseline.

God loves all sinners the same! We see that in the aforementioned verses. However, as a Christian, God loves you a bit more than the ones at the baseline. Now, Christian can obtain the favor of God by three things:

  1. Faith – Hebrews 11:6 “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
  2. Service – Matthew 5:16 “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
  3. Closeness – The closer we are to Jesus, the stronger the relationship.

These are three things that bring us into a very close relationship with Jesus. When we begin to become closer to Him we will gain His favor. Favor is the excessive kindness or partiality. How does one obtain this favor? Jesus said, “If ye love me, see my commandments.” So Love is unmerited but favor is obtained. God does favor people that are faithful when others are not. God favor people that serve Him and others when most do not. Also God favors those that are close to Him when others choose to remain far away. When David saw God kill a man for touching the Ark, he feared God. However when the Ark rested in a man’s home, he experienced the blessing of God’s favor due to his closeness to the presence of God. How close are you to God?

Element #2 (Love Will Never Leave Favor Can Come & Go)

If you have children then you know that this statement is absolutely true! I remember one day my son made the honor roll and I was very proud of him. The relationship was very strong and I was happy to claim him as my best buddy. One day, you guessed it, he didn’t make honor roll and actually almost failed a class. Needless to say, that moment wasn’t the moment where he would have got the 31 flavors from Baskin-Robbins. In fact, I began to withdraw my favor from him until he once again demonstrated that he was able to satisfy my standards! You see God has very high standards but He give us His power in order t achieve His high standards. That is like the CEO of a company telling an intern to find a good place to live and that the CEO will pay for your house so that he can visit.

God will never stop loving us, even if we go into the pit of the damned! His love transcends time, space and even His own judgement. However, His amor will only be as strong as our ability to trust, serve and draw to Him. How is your relationship with Him today? If you were to reflect upon your life, would you say that God Loves you or that he Favors you? God does love everyone the same but some people are more favored by Him than others. You cannot live a life totally devoted to pleasing self and expect God to bless that when others are giving selflessly to Him and others that are less fortunate. In tomorrow’s devotional, we will talk more about the next lie that the devil tells in church. You will want to come back tomorrow for this next one.
