Five Lies That The Devil Tells In Church (Part 2)
“Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me? He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.”
Just under 7,000 years ago, the first lie that a human uttered was in the land that God created in sheer perfection. Since that day that Adam and Even lied to God and believed the lies of the devil they have always had problems and strife. Why? Could it be that it is easier to listen to the devil that speaks in a way that makes us want to believe? No one knows but we are aware that he speaks a loud and clear message to all of those that will listen. Howbeit, the devil speaks the loudest in, believe it or now, the house of God. The devil’s voice seems to endlessly cascade off of the holy vestments and into our minds like a tennis ball off of a hard surface. Learning what to listen for will not only help you to avoid his traps but will sharpen your senses to his attack. Join us this week as we discuss The Fie Lies That The Devil Tells In Church.
Lie # 2 “You Can Come To God Your Own Way”
This is another vicious lie of the devil during church and even outside of the church house. The devil tries to get people to believe that you can come to God your own way. We see in many scriptures that you cannot come to God in any specific way. One must come to Jesus in Spirit and in truth:
“God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”
Some people believe that they can believe in what they want and expect to get into heaven. For instance, how many times have you heard these things when you’ve spoken to people about salvation and their souls:
- “I’m a good person and God wouldn’t punish good people…”
- “Hell is for bad people and heaven is for good people…”
- “If I do enough good, I know that I will goto heaven…”
- “One day, my good will outweigh my bad and I will be let in…”
- “I don’t need church, I can come to God in my own way…”
- “I don’t need Jesus to goto heaven when I can pray to God myself…”
- “I can pray and worship God my own way. I don’t need church…”
- “Organized religion is man made and not they way I want to worship God…”
Obviously, there are many excuses that people can provide that will make them not come to God in the only way that the bible outlines.
Let’s break down this scripture that we shared earlier:
A. God is a Spirit – God is perfect, holy and just! His Holy Spirit is required in order for us to have a relationship with Him. If you do not have God’s Holy Spirit then it will be literally impossible for one to connect or want to connect with the things of God.
B. And they that worship Him – Those people that choose to worship God must realize who and what it is that they are worshipping. The Creator, Prince of Peace, Everlasting Father, The Rock of Ages and The Bright & Morning Star! With a credential list like that, one shouldn’t seek to find another way when God is clearly qualified to receive our worship & praise.
C. Must worship Him in spirit and in truth – The word must means an obligation or to be bound to do so. We must worship God in spirit and in truth. By the way, one of God’s names is The Spirit of Truth. You see, He is due our praise but we can’t even praise Him without first knowing Him.
If you are going to worship God, you MUST do it His way and not your own. Jesus is God in flesh and a representative of The Father in skin and bone. We would do well if we followed Christ’s example and gave God what He is due. In tomorrow’s devotional we will cover the next lie that the devil tells in church.
