Living With Mrs. Misery (Part 4)
“Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.“
Many people have and currently do live with a house guest that calls herself Mrs. Misery. Mrs. Misery, often attaches herself to couples, in their homes, which makes her sometimes a longterm guest and even part of the family. When families invite Mrs. Misery into their homes, they are initially impressed by her warm and bubbly exterior but overtime Mrs. Misery changes into a stranger that they are unable to rid themselves. Mrs. Misery comes across as an advisor but quickly becomes adversary overtime to the family. She tricks the family into believing and accepting the following thoughts:
Day 1 Be afraid, be very afraid, of economic loss Practice sustained boredom Give yourself a negative identity Day 2 Pick fights Attribute bad intentions Whatever you do, do it only for personal gain Day 3 Avoid gratitude Always be alert and in a state of anxiety Blame other people
- Don’t enjoy life’s pleasures
- Glorify or vilify the past
- Find a romantic partner to reform
- Be critical
- Leave God Out Of Everything
This week, we will learn how many people are burdened which misery and how they can overcome. Join us this week as we are Living With Mrs. Misery!
“Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.“ On day 4, we will begin to notice a few things that instantly stand out from the previous days. We see that Mrs. Misery begins to use one of her most effective tools; she employs time travel, the ability to be judge, jury and executioner and she also has the ability to dampen a good mood in the room by not even saying a word. We will see what Mrs. Misery has to say about the events of Day 4.
- Glorify Or Vilify The Past
Time travel is one of the most impressive tools that Mrs. Misery has at her disposal! You may ask, how does she employ time travel. She uses it in the following ways:
A. Anytime Jump – Mrs. Misery gives others the ability and the power to jump from the present to the past at anytime that they choose to jump. This can be achieved by one uttered word or even a suggested thought. Here’s how it works:
A husband and wife are having a great day and are in the process of getting closer to each other; Mr. Misery can’t have this to happen. Mrs. Misery knows that if the husband and wife get too close then, they will have a strong bond that she can’t disrupt. So she strikes when neither partner suspects anything and their guards are asleep and the walls are down. The husband may have had a past of sinful behavior that the wife has long since forgiven but Mrs. Misery wants to indict the husband before a crime is ever committed. The husband expresses his love for his wife and his desire to remain committed to her and only her. Mrs. Misery uses the word “committed” as a secret code for the wife to instantly load her mind and spirit into a mental time ship for an instant trip back down memory lane. Mrs. Misery sets the time dial to go back to the time where the husband was in his sinful state. Now, since the wife has went back in time, she is unable to hear his words of reassurance because all she can experience is the past! The husband can tell her that he has just won the lottery and will give her a shopping spree but she can only focus on the contradiction of information. Mrs. Misery tells her “Okay he is saying this… but in the past he has done this! You don’t know if he will change but since he has done this…. before, he has it inside of him to do again.” As strong as the wife may be mentally and emotionally, she will not be able to resist this logic. She will yield and seemingly have an attitude for no reason at all, to the appearance of the man, but in her mind it’s very vivid, very clear and very real. This is why the bible tells us in
2 Corinthians 10:5
“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;”
This thought process leaves the wife a prisoner of her own imagination while making her think that she is the warden of the prison. She has a door to escape but she believes that she is in full control and chooses to remain in this state. Only Jesus Christ can bring freedom! She has to cast down the these high things in her mind. Notice the bible says “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God”. When women or men time travel back down memory lane, they develop this sense of superiority over the person to whom they perceive to have trespassed against them. Getting back to bible and knowing what God expects of us will keep us from trouble. Amen?
B. Vanish Without A Trace – This technique is used by Mrs. Misery when she talks to men after the woman has just time traveled back to memory lane. The illustration that I can think of when it comes to this is in Star Trek when they step on the teleportation pad. What happens is the person that wishes to be teleported verbalizes “Energize” to which the controller sends energy into their bodies which dematerializes them piece by piece until them completely vanish and materialize elsewhere. When men, most of the time, are attacked by the wife’s new evidence advisory board from the past they experience this vanishing. The wife comes back with this massive amount of energy going into the husband. Once he is energized he and his words begin to dematerialize until there is nothing left but silence. He rematerializes in another location until she reinitializes the transporter with the positive energy of an apology.
So this word means to literally chew, mediate, ponder or revive again. This has the implication of doing something again or re living an event. This is why one can seemingly re live an event in vivid color and see previously unseen details. So when one forgives, they choose to lock this memory into an inescapable chamber with a glass window. It can be seen but not accessed until the combination to the door is entered thus releasing the door. Our locked room is our forgiveness, the lock to this is GRACE that comes from Jesus Christ. What happens all too often is we enjoy seeing the memory locked up but because it is in our ship or mind, we wish that it goes on someone else ship or the person that created it in the first place. So in our desire to send it back to the other person’s ship, we release it into our ship hoping that it will go into their ship. This is literally like setting your house on fire so that the neighbor, that you can’t stand, will be inconvenienced. Trying to re live the past is like trying to un toast bread. No matter what you do or say, it will not change the fact that you cannot change the fact.
Mrs. Misery wants to make all those that will listen to her go back and enjoy side seat driving all the while running over all of those that get in the way. The bible tells us in
“Say not thou, What is the cause that the former days were better than these? for thou dost not enquire wisely concerning this.”
People that often relive the past, have a secret desire to return back there. Jesus tells us to not worry about clothing and food. This scripture makes an inference to the future but it could be interpreted as looking back into the past for comfort. Jesus tells us to be focused on today.
3. Don’t Enjoy Life’s Pleasures
Because Mrs. Misery reminds people of the past, and they choose to live there again, they neglect today. If one spends all of their time in the present, trying to repair the past, then their future will be one of misery and regret. Mrs. Misery says to these people “If you go back in time and try to prevent this… from happening now based on what you learned from the past, you will have a better future.” This is great logic for a person that does NOT know Christ as their LORD! Jesus reminds us that He is LORD. The Lord runs the show and has all power! However, when we try to be the LORD, we will quickly become overwhelmed by what we can’t fix. We will then run out of time trying to fix that thing that we can’t fix all the while loosing what we can’t retrieve. I have learned that people that try to prevent things from happening based on past experiences tend to be miserable and really don’t enjoy life. It’s like they live in a popcorn popper! When they get hot they fear change because they are afraid that they will miss something special. Not knowing that remaining in the same conditions that caused you to become depressed will only destroy you.
God has a mighty plan for us to follow so that we glorify HIM in all that we say and do in His divine purpose. However, when we try to change our past with the present that we can’t control anyways, we will be on the road to a very dark future. This causes unhappiness, depression, emptiness, isolation form others and creates a distance from you and God. Today, as you walk with the Lord, remember to avoid unlocking Grace and jumping into the time ship back down memory lane. If God wanted us to vividly recall the past and re live it, we would all have been born into a world without time or with a remote control that allows us to rewind and pause. Since we don’t have these things, we have to rely upon GRACE and Faith in Jesus Christ. In tomorrow’s devotional we will see how introducing God into the life of Mrs. Misery will greatly improve yours.
