REFORMERS UNANIMOUS 10 PRINCIPLES (PART 8)
When we look into the Reformers Unanimous ministry, most people will ask “What is it”? Reformers Unanimous is unapologetically a Christ centered faith based addictions ministry that helps those bound in addictions get victory through Jesus Christ. The way that we facilitate this is through a few resources:
A. Three Talks
B. Ten Principles
C. Dynamic Testimonials
D. Spirit Filled Biblical Application
Today we will focus on the ten principles and how we can apply them to our lives as we seek to a clean, sober victorious life in Christ.

When I think about this principle I think about firefighters fighting fires in a forest. A firemen has at their disposal water, foam and carbon dioxide which they use to fight fires. These firemen do not use gasoline or other fire in order to put out fires. This would only make things worse and would consume them along with the things that the fire touches. However, firemen use something called a firebreak which is a gap in between the full source and other fuel sources. This break serves as a speed bump or red light for fire. It will slow it’s progress or stop it all together so that the firemen can get the victory for an out of control blaze. It is usually designed into the plans of houses and man-made objects or it is artificially constructed when the blaze can not be controlled by ordinary means. this firebreak prevents the fire for effecting & destroying others.
In our lives, we are often overwhelmed by things in out spiritual walk either accidentally or purposely. However the temptation started, it will NOT stop until it has consumed everything within it’s grasp or unless it has been extinguished. Sometimes, in our lives, we will have the fires of temptation blaze in our lives hot and heavy. We will try to do all that we can in order to extinguish it but we will find that it rages out of control. Our efforts to control this inferno will fail leaving us feeling overwhelmed, insignificant and without hope. It is in this moment where we might be tempted to just run away and let the fire burn up everything. DON’T GIVE UP! There may be another team building a fire break just behind us and we need to fold on and not let the fires overwhelm us.
We can’t fight fire with fire, otherwise we will get consumed by the fire coming toward us or burned by the fire in which we are attempting to start. Either way, the end result will not be good. What do we do then? How do we fight a fleshly temptation without using relapsing back to fleshly weapons?
A. You Must Know What You’re Fighting
Most military and intelligence forces will tell you this bit of advice “In order to defeat the enemy, we must know about the enemy.” This means that we need to learn the enemy’s weaknesses and their strengths before you can defeat them.
The devil is our enemy and his strength is when we feel that we have strength and his weakness is when we realize that we are weak and seek Jesus. We wrestle not against flesh and blood but powers. Do you know who you’re fighting? Stop looking at the things that we can see and start fighting the one who seeks to remain hidden.
B. You Must Know Why You’re Fighting
In our country we fight because we support and defend the US Constitution. This document supports and gives us liberty. The Lord Jesus Christ doesn’t need us to fight for Him but if we don’t take a human stand then the human race will take a fall. We need to reach the world with the good news of salvation. How are you fighting for Jesus?
C. You Must Know When To Fight
Do you realize that the devil doesn’t take vacation? He doesn’t sleep or even get tired. So he and his minions can literally cause trouble 24/7 and they have been fro thousands of years. They have trillions of hours of experience while we don’t have but 70 years to fight them and become proficient enough to be victorious. I want to say that against that type of force, we have no chance in our own power. This is why we fail!
However, when we except Jesus’ power and let it flow in and through us we will not only endure these attacks but strengthen others to do the same thing. We must allow Jesus to be in us and flow from us daily and every minute of the day. otherwise we face doom and defeat.
You cannot fight a fleshly temptation with fleshly weapons and expect to win. That’s like expecting to win a marathon when you’ve NEVER trained or conditioned for it. We must prepare to win and practice winning through Jesus so that we gain experience. The greatest gift we can get from God is experience. What do you desire from God? In tomorrow’s devotional, we will cover another principle from Reformers Unanimous. Join us again as we address real life issues with biblical answers on Worship With Willie.
