God’s Protection & Provision

God’s Protection & Provision

Luke 10:30-37

In our text of the good Samaritan we see that Jesus tells about the kindness of a stranger to another that has had a vein of misfortune. I will not go too in depth into this story but I wanted to share this story as a text to the message that God has really laid upon my heart.

I just heard a story a few hours ago about an amazing testimony of God’s Protection and Provision. I hope that this story blesses you as much as it blessed me.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A Bible, pulled from a charred SUV, was virtually untouched after the vehicle burst into flames along a Memphis highway.

According to Memphis affiliate WREG, the incident happened on the eastbound side of 385 around 2:30 p.m. Sunday local time.

Police said a Jeep left the road and caught on fire.

An officer was able to pull the driver from the vehicle moments before it exploded.

The SUV was destroyed, but a Bible recovered from the passenger seat was found unharmed.

The unharmed bible from the vehicle.

The average person will see this article and say, “That was just a random happenstance or stroke of luck”, and I would validate their argument except for the untouched bible. The pictures of this accident shows how the car was fully engulfed in flames. There is no logical way that anyone or anything that wasn’t metal or flame resistant could survive. The only logical answer is that God’s Word can survive the fire! Where God guides, He provides.

A. God Guides Our Paths

The man that was assaulted by the thieves was very fortunate that he wasn’t killed. I often question why didn’t this man see them and fight back? The bible doesn’t go into detail about this but my guess is that he probably didn’t see any danger until it was too late. Notice that the bible said that he left Jerusalem (which is a type of church) to Jericho (which is a type of home). How many times do we hear the best sermon of our lives in church but something happens or someone does something to make us loose what we got from God? Usually, they are people we know or feel comfortable with such as family, friends or even co-workers. We see that they were all on the same path. God guides our paths so that He can get the maximum amount of glory for Himself. Sometimes bad things may happen but rest assured that the same God that allows the bad to happen, is the same God that will send a rescuer your way. God guides our paths but we often turn off the notifications on His God Positioning Sensors (GPS). If your volume on your GPS is all the way down, don’t blame Him when you get lost and suffer injury. Turn it up and “He shall direct thy path“.

B. God Gives Us Protection

I often ask myself “Why didn’t those thieves kill him after they robbed him”? The bible says that they left him half dead. When a person dies, there is a period of time where their body still moves as if they are alive but in reality there is no life there. I believe that these thieves believed that he was dead but he was actually unconscious and numb to the actions of this world.

Spiritually, if we tangle with the things and people’s philosophies of this world we will end up half dead on the side of life’s road. We will believe that the joy thieves are our friends but in the end they will only walk by us with a critical eye because they don’t want to define themselves. God protected this man from destruction because God IS Good. The world oftentimes complains about how God did or allowed something bad to happen but they miss a whole lifetime of protection and provision that He has given to them. The people of this world are spiritually dead! The bible tells us that in Romans 5:12 “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:”. Though they may move around spiritually and look spiritually alive, they are just as dead as a greek statue. Even though they may show this shallow movement they are unconscious and numb to the things of God. That’s why the bible says in I Corinthians 2:14 “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God:for they are foolishness unto him:neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” God does give us protection from the knock out blow from this world. The man in the article can attest to that as he was protected by the hand of God. By the way, God protected His Word also. God did that just to prove that He can protect in the fire as well. Ask the three Hebrew children: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed–nego. Does God protect you or do you find yourself running into trouble?

C. God Gives Us Preservation

Today, we have heard of God’s protection and God’s provision but we also know about God’s preservation. The man that was attacked by the thieves and the man that was removed from the car, in our article today, are all good examples of God Guiding Our Path, God Protecting and Providing for us but that bible untouched by the engulfing fire is an example of God’s preserving power.

We all know that paper can burn up in fire and there is NO LOGICAL way that this could have happened. The ONLY EXPLANATION is that God protected HIS Word. If God can protect a simple book, in engulfing fire that was over 1,000 degrees, He can protect me in everyday life situations. We see that the bible was in the front seat with the man in the car. Had it been anywhere else, it would have been destroyed by the fire, and the story would have been very different. The only way that we will have protection in this life is to walk with God, much like the bible was with the driver. Are you walking with God? Is God protecting you? Does God preserve you from the fires of the enemy?

God knows our struggles and He knows our pains. He loves us and I KNOW beyond a shadow of a doubt GOD has allowed this to happen to encourage someone today. I don’t who you are but remember this, (God Loves You and He Will Protect You, Just Keep Walking By His Side).
