The Real Meaning Of Christmas (Part 2)
Today is Christmas Day and I see a simple calm over the streets and the outside of my window. The only thing that I noticed lurking about is the bird as they seek it’s breakfast. There is a holy hush amid the creatures and a stillness that only accompanies heavenly peace. I sit down with my morning cup of coffee and think about the goodness of God as I listen to Christmas carols. However, I as I listen to these songs I hear a song that isn’t a delight but strikes a contrast to everything that I have just heard. The name of the song was “You’re A Mean One Mr. Grinch”. Even amid the peace, joy and comfort we are reminded that people will still hate this season and everything for which it stands. In our text we see that King Herod had these feelings even though he tried to hide them behind a heart of compassion and holiness.
Why Do People Hate Christmas?
“Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men.”
Kindness Demands Humility
In this text we see that Herod was the king of Israel and was apparently had a quick temper that’s why one of the reason why he ordered infanticide. People don’t want to see Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior because it means that will have to humble themselves and submit to Him. King Herod, because of stubbornness and pride, refused to and sought to destroy Him. It was easier for King Herod to remove Christ from his life all-together than to submit and obey.
People have tried everything from inventing an imaginary godlike man unto forcing themselves to believe that it was all a lovely story that isn’t true. The Christmas story is true just the account of the creation. Whether you choose to believe or not is a matter of faith or ignorance.
Today as we all enjoy our time with friends and family lets not forget the real meaning for this season. Jesus Christ our Lord born to die for man. Join us again as we address real life issues with biblical answers on Worship With Willie.
